Sr. Telecom Technician

Summary:

As a NEC Telecom Tech, you will be responsible for performing intermediate to complex installation, maintenance, and change order services at a major customer location in Dallas, Austin and San Antonio for NEC systems, applications, and associated equipment, often in a lead role. Telecom Technicians determines specifications, evaluates network applications, software and network communications. Offers Multi-Functional Device trouble-shooting and equipment upgrade/improvement advice. Performs installation, and/or service on customer Multi-Functional Devices. Troubleshoots problems, conducts tests, and adjusts/repairs equipment as necessary with minimal assistance. Provides guidance, technical information and assistance to lower level Technicians. May meet with a variety of internal and external management/staff to obtain information on customer/market requirements and technology trends. May participate in the definition of divisional product features and specifications, considering market requirements and potential within established and new accounts.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • 90% of your time will be to provide on-site and remote technical assistance.  Will include intermediate to complex installation, maintenance, and change order services on NEC systems, applications, and associated equipment. Troubleshooting of NEC equipment and/or Telco circuits at the customer’s locations and / or remote. Taking corrective action and making changes/adjustments as required. Assist in providing innovative solutions to customer. Perform basic VoIP network readiness assessments using appropriate software and equipment.
  • 5% Provide sales support for surveys and meetings as directed by management.
  • 5% Additional duties as required. Including but not limited to performing administrative duties, and completing appropriate paperwork and documentation according to deadlines, as required.

Prerequisites -

  • Education: Some college-level technical IT/Telecommunications) or Business coursework preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum five years of related practical experience working with NEC telecom systems and applications required.  Ability to configure NEC systems and applications to meet customer requirements required.  Ability to replace data hardware and perform basic data management.
  • Certifications, Licenses, etc:  Must have at minimum ((1) NEC SMB PBX Certification; (1) NEC Enterprise PBX Certification; (1) NEC Advanced PBX Certification; (1) NEC SMB Voice Messaging Application Certification; (1) NEC Enterprise Voice Messaging Application Certification (VMO)
  • NEC Application Certification, as per local requirements; and OEM/ 3rd-Party Equipment Certification(s) as per local requirements. Certifications from other manufacturers will be considered. Industry certifications (Cisco CCNA, Microsoft MCP, etc) preferred. Must have a valid driver’s license for principal state of employment.
  • Work Environment and Physical Demands - Lift up to 25lb, general Work Environment: Client work site – On Site
  • Noise: Moderate noise encountered as is typical to office environments, street traffic, construction sites, and urban/suburban customer settings.
  • Standing/Lifting: Regularly required to sit and occasionally required to stand, bend, crawl, or stoop. At times may need to work on a ladder or lift.  Ability to lift up to 50 pounds individually, more with proper equipment and assistance.

  • Stress: Frequent moderate-to-high stress levels, due to deadlines and inherent sense of urgency associated with telecommunications/networking industry.
  • Travel: Daily local travel within assigned area.  May be required to work outside of assigned area or region, as required.
  • Supervisory Responsibility, if any: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Language Skills: Business – Professional Business English

Mathematical Skills: - Basic Math

Reasoning Skills: Excellent customer service and communication skills

Computer and/or Technical Skills: NEC's SV PBX's, Univerge Blue Connect/Engage OW5000, GNAV applications supporting a multisite environment. Knowledge of VoIP (SIP) based telephony networks and their servers.

Noise: Moderate noise encountered as is typical to office environments, street traffic, construction sites, and urban/suburban customer settings.

The anticipated salary range for this position is $55,000 to $70,000 with a target annual 3% bonus; depending upon the selected candidate’s relevant experience, the exact salary for the role may fall outside of this range. This role will also be eligible to participate in the Company’s bonus/incentive program(s).
